This Just In... -- Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader will deliver a free lecture, with Q & amp;A to follow, at WSU's Beasley Coliseum on Thursday, April 17 at 7:30 pm. Nader's topic will be "Human Energy and Activism in the New Millenium." We wonder how many people will ask him what he meant about there being no difference between Gore and Bush?

More Classic Rock? -- The Peak has morphed into a classic rock radio station The Buzzard. Yep, it's true. 105.7 The Peak is no more, but 105.7 The Buzzard is the newest radio station to hit Spokane airwaves. The Buzzard claims that it will play "pure" classic rock -- stuff along the lines of Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and ZZ Top. They also have an afternoon DJ that likes, among other things, "beer," "other men's women," "hunting" and "porn." We don't want to be unfriendly, but does Spokane really need more than one classic rock station? Especially one that seems to be asserting itself as "rock for rednecks?" We should probably just be glad we've still got a few decent stations here and that they show no signs of vanishing any time soon.

Witch Hunt? -- The best thing about the 2003 CMT Flameworthy Awards finally being over is not that Shania Twain won (Best Concept Video) but that we'll no longer have to endure her anti-Dixie Chicks, anti-Stevie Nicks, pro-"ME! ME! ME!" commercial. If you haven't seen it yet, it basically jumps onto the tedious "Dixie Chicks are bad" bandwagon. If the whole patriotic thing isn't enough of a reason not to vote for the Chicks (or presumably, buy their records), how about playing the religion card? A serious male voice-over reminds viewers that the Dixie Chicks' hit single "Landslide" wasn't even written by the Chicks but by a "real-life witch" (cut to a shot of Stevie Nicks). What?? Are we going to start rounding up and burning at the stake anyone who wore black chiffon and made spooky back in the '70s? By the time the commercial cuts to a smiling, prancing, hair-tossing Shania Twain -- she's as American as you can get, for, well, a Canadian -- the whole thing is starting to seem like a Saturday Night Live skit. Is it just us or has the entire world lost its mind?

Unfinished Trilogy -- If you're in the mood for an early spring drive to Sandpoint this weekend, be sure to check out the romantic thriller Heaven at the Panida. The late Polish director Krzystof Kieslowski is perhaps best known for his "Three Colors Trilogy" (the DVD version of which we reviewed in last week's paper). German director Tom Twyker (Run Lola Run, The Princess and the Warrior) completed the film, which stars Cate Blanchett and Giovanni Ribisi. Call: 208-263-9191 for more information.
