Exit, Stage Left -- In recent months it seems there's never been a dull moment over at Interplayers. In addition to staff shake-ups and budget concerns, rumors were flying last week that Artistic Director Robin Stanton had left town. Those rumors, it turns out, are true. But that's not stopping Interplayers from looking to the future with renewed excitement. They have a talented new marketing director in artist and actress Kate Vander Wende, and have just announced that they're seeking applications for the positions of Business Manager and Artistic Director. They're even letting the theater-going community participate in the selection of next year's season by giving Lobby Hero audiences the chance to vote. Throughout the play's run (it ends March 27), you can vote on plays by Neil Simon, Shakespeare, Sam Shepard and big-time Buzz Bin favorite David Sedaris. Midnight at the Garland -- Nobody was more bummed than we were several weeks ago to realize we'd missed the Garland's midnight movie showing of Sixteen Candles. "Make someone a bridesmaid and they s**t all over you," we mournfully said to each other as we passed in the halls. "Married?" "Ma-llied," our un-PC call-and-response would go. The good news is that from now on, we'll be paying more attention. The Garland has been offering such '80s fare as Risky Business, Pretty in Pink and The Lost Boys as well as older classics such as The Philadelphia Story and To Kill a Mockingbird. They even offer newer cult favorites such as Best in Show. Is there something from your Dead or Alive days you're just dying to see? Yearning to witness young Ronald Reagan and a grown-up Shirley Temple in that tableau of forbidden, sort-of statutory love, That Hagen Girl? Let the Garland know by e-mailing [email protected].

Prize Patrol -- In our story on the closure of the University of Idaho Press, we mentioned that Linda Lawrence Hunt's Bold Spirit is a winner of the 2004 Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Award. But she's not the only one. The PNBA awards, which will be presented in Seattle on March 19, include Pete Fromm's As Cool As I Am, Eric Larson's The Devil in the White City, Anthony Swofford's Jarhead, Matt Ruff's Set This House in Order, and Gary Ferguson's Hawk's Rest.
