by MICHAEL BOWEN & r & & r & The Hair, the Rimless Glasses & r & & r & Jess Walter (The Zero) is speaking on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 pm at Gonzaga's Cataldo Hall, so the Bin thought it'd be good to get a scouting report.

"At G.U., several classes are reading Citizen Vince before the election," Walter says, "so I'll likely talk about politics and political fiction, answer how Vince might see the '08 fuster cluck, read some new fiction and share the disturbing dream I keep having about Sarah Palin."

Now we really have to go. We just love it when Jess gets all mavericky.

Knowledge Is Ubiquitous

What with all these Internets running around, facts are so easy to obtain, they're practically valueless. That's why John Hodgman -- you know him as "PC" on the Mac commercials -- comes out this week with a sequel to his 2005 book, The Areas of My Expertise. It's called More Information Than You Require. Basically, it's a trivia book (more hobo names!), but made-up. You know, like a disinformation book. It's all just bogus crap. Kind of like what you find when you use the Google.

Sixties Idealism

Kim Barnes spent the first 12 years of her life as an Idaho logger's daughter, and she returns to her roots for her second novel, A Country Called Home. (She'll read from it at Auntie's tonight, Thursday, at 7:30 pm.) When a couple attempt to live off the land in Fife, Idaho, they face difficulties both logistical and emotional. Call 838-0206.

That's Being Community-Minded

CMTV (channel 14) is offering local nonprofits an opportunity to film a three-minute commercial for free. Just write [email protected] or call 209-2652 to set up an appointment on the fourth floor of 25 W. Main Ave. for Oct. 29-31 or Dec. 3-5. You just know you can create something way more interesting than those middle-of-the-night infomercials.
