Little appoints new Dalton Gardens council member to create quorum after recall

Idaho Gov. Brad Little's office announced Friday that Tyler Dreschel has been appointed to one of two Dalton Gardens council seats left vacant after residents recalled the mayor and half the City Council earlier this month.

Dreschel attended North Idaho College and serves as Northern Lakes Fire District fire marshal and division chief, according to the announcement. The Coeur d'Alene Press reported Dreschel was one of 14 applicants.

“Tyler’s long history of community service and involvement made him an ideal candidate for this appointment. I have no doubt he will fulfill the duties as council member to the best of his ability,” Little said in the release. “I want to sincerely thank all the applicants for this position. I appreciate their willingness to serve, listen to, and engage the people of Dalton Gardens.”

The appointment became necessary after the recall of Mayor Steve Roberge and council members Denise Lundy and Joe Myers on March 12. Dreschel's appointment creates a quorum with the two other members, Scott Jordan and Jamie Smith, who survived the recall. They'll appoint the other council position and someone to be mayor.

Dreschel will serve until the November 2019 election, as will the other appointees.
