NEWS:
 Migrant children detained by the Health and Human Services Department is at its highest number ever. In May 2017, there were 2,400 children in federally contracted shelters; now there are 12,800.

FICTION: Starting this week, over the course of the next year, the Inlander will publish installments of a new novel by local author Sam Ligon, Miller Cane: A True and Exact History.

STUDENTS: Actually, there aren't more homeless students in Spokane (as we previously reported). Data shows that student homelessness in Spokane County isn't on the rise, but there is an increase in some areas on the edge of the county. We have graphs.

FOOD: There's a new brewery in North Spokane and a Southern BBQ joint has closed.

Authorities rescued 255 dogs from two illegal breeding sits in unincorporated communities in Stevens County. Prosecutors are considering criminal charges. (Spokesman-Review)
