Hangouts


Off-campus: There's not a lot going on in the immediate vicinity of this campus on North Greene street, but students are only a short car or bus ride from the huge new Safeway (and surrounding stores) on North Market Street. On North Market is also where you find Zip's (best fish and chips that we know of) and Knight's Diner, which serves great breakfast and lunch in an old train car.


On campus: The highlight of the day is definitely the Bigfoot Caf & eacute;, and there's always something going on in the SUB, where students hang out in big and small groups. And for those outdoorsy types, don't forget that SCC is literally on the Centennial Trail -- if you ride your bike, you can be downtown in a matter of minutes.





Events/new in 2002


Students can now apply for admission on-line, just go to the Web site and follow the quick links. Health sciences are booming at SCC. The health sciences building has been undergoing an extensive remodeling and expansion stint during the past year. SCC is also working on establishing a Center for the Humanities, with support from the Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation, but there's a ways to go: the school needs to raise $1 million, including a possible $300,000 challenge grant from National Endowment of the Humanities. This fall there will also be a new series of seminars on how to grow a local business internationally. The seminars are a collaboration between Spokane's International Trade Alliance and SCC faculty, and the first one is planned for mid-October.
