Who likes dog brains?

Get ready to toss everything you’ve ever thought about your pooch out the doggie door. Turns out that whole “alpha dog” thing you probably trained your little Marley on is complete crap.

According to author and psychologist Alexandra Horowitz, the wolf-pack theory that dogs constantly vie for the dominant spot is a bit incorrect. The “dominant” and “social” factors in wolf families are more of a social unification thing and not a doggie-usurpation thing.

Horowitz —who wrote Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell, Know — will be at Spokane Community College tonight to share the inside scoop on the lives of dogs. She’ll explain why dogs can catch a Frisbee in mid-air and why they find the smell of fresh doggie urine way more interesting than the beautiful flower it's been sprayed on. If you’ve ever wanted to see the world from a pooch’s point of view, here’s your chance. She'll speak tonight at SCC's Lair at 7 pm.
