MORNING BRIEF: stabbings and Black Friday shopping results

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected an appeal from convicted Idaho killer John Joseph Delling -- who killed two college students in 2007 -- to plead not guilty by reason of insanity.

A man was fatally stabbed in Hillyard this weekend.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a man on the South Hill stabbed his German Shepherd in the neck and has been booked into jail for first-degree animal cruelty.

ELSEWHERE

Shoppers were out in full force on Black Friday, spending a whopping $11.2 billion. Though that's less than last year's numbers, reports say that's because shopping is now more spread out between Thanksgiving and the day after. 

The head of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced she'll step down next month.
