Why did Geiger & the Jail layoff's affected the lowest on the totem pole? Deputies are the foundation that holds a corrections unit together. Like anything else, without a good strong foundation it will crumble. Why didn't layoffs or budget cuts affect anyone high up? No Lieutenants or Sergeants were laid off & the Lieutenants still have all those county Dodge Chargers. If the Lieutenants gave up their cars & free gas cards, how many Deputies would that have spared? Budget cuts could have come from other places & not from staff. Spokane knows about the Geiger lies, that the county owns the land & the lease can be renewed. The airport has no legal right to kick Geiger out. Having the Deputies back is worth giving up a new jail.
