Rained out, depleted on Spokane's southern border

For the last two days, Inlander staff writer Nicholas Deshais will be walking, biking and paddling the 63-mile perimeter of the city of Spokane. Follow his progress here on Bloglander.

DAY THREE, HOUR THREE: Fatigue has started to set in.

I ended my day yesterday by climing the hills of Glenrose and today I began by climbing the monstrous hill on the west side of Latah Valley. My road bike is working fine. It's me that’s not. In between hills, my night was marked by rain, cold and soreness. After finding a suitable campsite near Hangman Park, the sun went down and the rain began.

This morning, while I tried to regain life in my legs, I pored over my maps. The city perimeter out here is not ruled by natural or artificial landmarks. It’s just a line on a map. So, thus far — and for the rest of the day — I’ll be skirting around the border, trying to ignore the numbness in my sapped legs.

Next up: I meet Spokane Riverkeeper Bart Mihailovich in Peaceful Valley for a ride down the river to T.J.. Meenach bridge.
