Hollywood Ending -- Some might argue that it's not much of a stretch for Woody Allen to write about, star in and direct a film about a neurotic director. But so what? The film -- with a main plot of said director going temporarily blind due to anxiety, but directing anyway -- is clever, fresh and funny. There's a little more slapstick than in recent years, but everything else, from inventive writing to solid direction of great actors -- even Tea Leoni is good! -- is there in fine form. (ES) Rated: PG-13
Spider-Man -- As superhero origin stories go, Sam Raimi does a decent job of bringing zing and neurosis to the screen, and the web-swinging along the real and imagined streets of New York City is a thrill. Tobey Maguire's very good; Kirsten Dunst is sweet. Willem Dafoe's good, but his Green Goblin character is an un-involving computer-generated fizzle. (RP) Rated: PG-13
