The Washington Post reports that San Francisco Giants pitcher Jeremy Affeldt is on the mend after seriously injuring his (non-throwing) hand while separating frozen hamburger patties at home in Spokane.

Affeldt, who went to high school in Colbert, Wash., will fly to the Bay Area tomorrow to have the hand checked out. The injury, which ended his season, occurred on Sept. 8.
