Help save Truth Ministries homeless shelter at Saturday's fundraiser

This week, we wrote about Truth Ministries, one of three men's homeless shelters in the city, that will close at the end of this month unless it can raise $2,800 in the days ahead.

Tomorrow, Truth Ministries will be holding a fundraiser at Brown and Spokane Falls Boulevard near the Convention Center, where volunteers will be waiting with buckets to collect spare change from drivers.

"Whatever is in the ashtray is just fine. Whatever you think you can afford," says Truth Ministries' founder Marty McKinney. "We're not giving up without a fight."

The Inlander's Daniel Walters wrote a cover story two years ago about the severe budget constraints facing our region's homeless shelters and services—and the importance of preserving our social safety net as the economy trudges forward.
