WHAT'S UP TODAY? Psychedelic sounds, snowshoeing tips and Spokane is Reading

You know all about the Inlander's vast array of event listings, and the Staff Picks selected by the folks working here. But sometimes you might not have time to check through the day's doings, and we're here to help by pulling a few highlights out of the mix for your perusal. 

Here's what caught my eye for Thursday, Oct. 16:

MUSIC | The Growlers are Cali boys, making their reverb-drenched dives into psychedelia not completely shocking. The band's latest album, Chinese Fountain, arrived in September, and it's a fine listen top to bottom, evoking some serious dance grooves along with a nice dash of twang. The Growlers are playing The Bartlett tonight, joined by openers The Garden. Here's a taste: 


BENEFIT | If you're a lover of all manner of cuddly critters, head on down to the Knitting Factory tonight for Rescue on the Runway, a benefit date auction and cocktail party benefitting the Spokane Humane Society.  

SPORTS & OUTDOORS | REI is offering another great class tonight, free of charge, this one on Snowshoeing Basics, starting at 7 pm. This mention is also a good time to remind you to read all about the outdoors in our Outlander blog, so go do that! 

ETC. | Fancy yourself a Westerner? I bet the folks at the Westerners Spokane Corral meeting might be able to teach you some things. The group meets for dinner and hosts a guest speaker every month, delving into all manner of Western lore and history.
