In honor of Asian American Heritage Month, Spokane’s nonprofit Asians for Collective Liberation hosts South Vietnamese-born American author Viet Thanh Nguyen at Spokane’s Central Library. Nguyen is known for his 2015 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Sympathizer and a collection of other acclaimed novels that dive into the Vietnamese diaspora and Asian American experience. At this event, Nguyen dives into his new memoir, To Save and To Destroy: Writing as an Other, in which he examines what it’s like to be an outsider through literary, historical, political and familial points of view. The event will also be livestreamed for those unable to make it to Nguyen’s talk on Thursday.
