Would the police throw a city or county council member to the ground, put a knee in their back (or on their head), while hand-cuffing them?
Not without some pretty major justification. They should be treating every citizen the same. After all, the citizens are their actual employer. Instead they treat citizens as, at worst, the source of their problems (criminals) or, at best, as a nuisance and interference to them doing their job (of arresting citizens).
Lately the police don´t need to be certain of a citizens criminal activity to treat them as criminals. Actually they treat criminals better. That is because criminals won´t argue with them because they are more concerned with escaping punishment for their crime than with their rights as a citizen.
