Salish Sea Early Music Festival: A Bach Cantata Ich Habe Genug

On the west side of our glorious state lies the Salish Sea, an inlet that stretches from Olympia to Vancouver Island. This time of year, as the air warms and our spirits rise, a group of musicians travels to cities bordering the Salish Sea to perform period chamber music as part of the Salish Sea Early Music Festival. This year, the musicians will stray from their usual route of Vancouver, Olympia, Seattle and Bellingham to bring their talents to Spokane for one night only. Soprano Maike Albrecht, harpsichordist Hans-Jürgen Schnoor and baroque flutist Jeffrey Cohan perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s cantata Ich Habe Genug, which translates from German as “I am content.” In the composition, Bach projects a feeling of serene contentedness with life, beyond anything that words alone can convey.
