Re: “Body of Knowledge

This is a "weighty" issue!! Pun intended! My genetics pre-dispositioned me to have blonde hair, blue eyes, and I am very tall. My genetics also dictated that I carry extra weight too! But of course, people don't understand that. They pre-judge me as someone who is weak and stupid. Weak because I "obviously" can't resist food. Stupid because I am obviously just ruining my health by eating too much.
People have slowly started to understand that we were created in different colors, genders, heights, etc. Why is it so difficult to grasp we were created in different sizes also? Yes, I realize that a lot of us do over-indulge and don't exercise. I also realize that we have gone from very physical work to more sedentary work so we don't get the exercise we once did.
I am overweight according to the height and weight charts produced by the insurance industry. I'm neither stupid nor am I weak. I eat between 800-1000 calories per day. I don't exercise as much as I probably could and sometimes I try to work on that. BUT, I am also a smart, independent individual that works over 40 hours per week at my paying job while being a full time, single mother during my "off" times. I have 2 children, one of whom favors his father's genetics of being skinny and wirery and my oldest son who favors my genetics of being very tall however heavy. Both the boys eat the same foods, get the same amount of exercise as their brother, yet they are two entirely different people!!
We don't talk about weight in our home as it is no one's business. It is an individual thing and people shouldn't just keep their judgements to themselves.

Re: “Where are all the Children?

So sad that sometimes it is so horrible at home that these kids think that living on the streets is a better situation for them. Of course, then you've got those kids who are rebelling who think they know it all and that their parents are the stupidest people on the planet! Don't know what the answer is, but you've got to want help to accept help!

Re: “A Toothy Matter

Dental coverage by insurance is a joke! Most $1,000.00 annual caps per year barely take care of preventative dentistry, let alone anything that needs repair.
Physicians are "forced" into caring for the indigent whether willingly or by providing care and not getting paid. Dentist evidently aren't part of that and for the most part, don't serve the indigent.
