Sasha taqʷšəblu LaPointe is a Coast Salish author from the Upper Skagit and Nooksack Indian tribes who has always longed for a home for both her body and her spirit. Her 2023 Washington State Book Award-winning memoir, Red Paint: The Ancestral Autobiography of a Coast Salish Punk, documents LaPointe’s search for “home” and recounts personal and ancestral traumas and memories. LaPointe’s story is set within the Coast Salish ancestral land and incorporates punk rock aesthetics to share her story of healing, resilience and self-discovery. Spokane Community College and the Washington Center for the Book co-host LaPointe at Spokane Community College for an in-person event, featuring a presentation and Q&A with the acclaimed author. A virtual attendance option is also available.
