Intermission & r & (The band) lists classic rock among their chief influences. Lord knows classic rock is in the middle of a pretty intense resurgence right now (Sleater-Kinney, the Hold Steady, Black Mountain et al.), so you might want to check them out before they get too huge for this town. We listened to an unmastered demo, which didn't really reveal much. One thing they have plenty of, though, is confidence. From their press release: "Intermission has labeled itself a very promising ... act" [emphasis ours]. They play Friday at Fat Tuesday's.

To Elliot From Portland & r & Elliot Smith will get a proper PDX tribute come February. Details are sketchy on the just-announced project, but it'll be chock-full of Northwest artists covering their favorite Smith songs. Ones we're looking forward to: the Decemberists, "Clementine"; the Thermals, "Ballad of Big Nothing"; Swords, "I Didn't Understand"; and Sean Croghan, "Hard Times" (previously unreleased).

Geek Shall Inherit the Earth & r & Within these pages, you'll find a review of an album about cartoons. On stages this fall, you'll find two music festivals sponsored by video game companies. The times, they are a' changin'.

The Nintendo Fusion Tour and Playstation DualPlay Tour will fight it out for the hearts and minds of the hippest amongst us. Nintendo, true to market demographics, is targeting younger kids with a lot of pop-punk and radio-friendly offerings. If you're up for a trip, it'll hitting Boise and Seattle.

Sony is going straight for your mid-20s hipster jugular with LCD Soundsystem headlining and by staying the hell out of the Northwest. They're going to Portland, which is no longer part of the NW, having been officially annexed by hipper regions (like Quebec or something).
