Artist's Views

My main concern with regard to the new curator of the museum is that he take the local contemporary artists into consideration. We are so insulated and isolated from what happens nationally that exposure to that scene would be important to me. And perhaps most important, I hope that he can connect with the local artists and try to make relationships with us. It would be nice to be a part of things that happen at the museum, so that those of us who are very involved with the arts be challenged and engaged.


And of course, I would like to see more local art represented there. I know there has to be a mix of works that appeal to the mainstream audience and that fulfill the artists' interests. But I feel that it's important that the museum consider all the people who are in the community surrounding the museum, and pull us into what it represents as time passes.

As I see it, the MAC's role is to exhibit art by nationally and internationally


recognized artists. Although Spokane-area residents can and do travel to see high-caliber shows, they should be able to have some of these experiences at home. The new Curator of Art has some good ideas for future shows, and if the budgeting process is in balance, we can look forward to some great exhibits at the MAC. In planning new shows, the Museum could include work by the best regional artists in a context of significant work by artists from outside the region."

Being a contemporary artist, I'd like to see a good emphasis put on the contemporary arts. That's the main thing I'd like to see happen. The new curator seems very energetic. And with several nice galleries at the new museum, it would be nice to see at least one show a month there. Of course, being an artist, I'd like to have a show there!"
