Foxy Memories - By now you've all probably heard the news that the Fix the Fox campaign has just named two of the city's most famous natives, Thomas S. Foley and Patrice Munsel, as honorary chairs for the $20 million Fix the Fox campaign.

Of course Foley's name is instantly recognizable. But Munsel? As a young girl growing up in Spokane, Munsel was so inspired by the acts she saw at the Fox -- including Jeanette MacDonald, Lily Pons and a touring production of Madame Butterfly -- that she knew she had to become an opera singer. Luckily she had the talent to back it up, and at the age of 17 she became the youngest singer ever to star with the Metropolitan Opera. Although her face was suddenly on the covers of Time, Life and Look, Munsel returned to Spokane for her first professional appearance at the Fox before moving to New York. Lines snaked around the block, and it was the first time she had ever seen her name up on a marquee. Now in her 70s, Munsel has had a long and illustrious career, but she still holds a soft spot for the Fox.

"I'll do anything that they ask me to do," she laughs in response to being asked what an honorary chair does. "I want to do whatever I can to help the Fox because I have so many happy memories there." Munsel, who still performs, says plans for a return singing engagement at the Fox are in the works. We can't wait!

Ain't Misbehavin' - We got a little excited when we first heard about this event, thinking it was a swing dance in the Cathedral. And then one of our brighter colleagues pointed out, "what would they do with the pews?" Sure enough, we'd read the press release wrong. Well, now that we've been straightened out on what cathedrals can and can't be used for, we'd like to let y'all know about "Swing in the Cathedral," a benefit for Habitat for Humanity featuring the 18-piece big band outfit Tuxedo Junction. Tickets are only ten bucks, and you can enjoy the gothic magnificence of St. John's Cathedral reverberating with the sounds of Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey, all while helping out a great cause. Coming in for a Landing - Looking for a new way to celebrate Armed Forces Day? Not really? Well, listen up. Felts Field is the place to be this Saturday from 10 am-2 pm as the airport celebrates its 75th anniversary and receives a place on the National Register of Historic Places. Activities include a slide presentation, a display of vintage aircraft and a walking tour.
