The "V" Word -- For a body part with no discernible vocal chords, it appears that the humble vagina has plenty to say. For the third year in a row, The Vagina Monologues -- written by Eve Ensler and produced in communities all over the United States and abroad -- is coming to the Met. Stop the Clock, a nonprofit organization that works to put an end to violence against women, is once again sponsoring the Monologues, which describe women's experiences with sexuality, violence and relationships. As in years past, local volunteers from the community -- including our own associate editor, Pia K. Hansen -- will be reading the monologues. This year's event also features the Vagina Warrior Award (given to men or women who work on women's violence issues locally) along a bake sale. At the Met on Monday, March 8; tickets are $10-$20; $8, students. Call 325-SEAT.





Bad Boy Bing -- With all the hoopla surrounding the arrivals of Charlize, Nicole, Johnny and Sean, Bing Crosby's old denim jacket was hardly noticed on last Sunday's red carpet at the Oscars. And yet the jacket -- sported by Levi Strauss & amp; Co.'s chief legal counsel, Tom Onda -- is a bit of walking Hollywood history. Rumor has it that Crosby was a big fan of Levi's jeans, but was actually turned away at a hotel once for wearing them. Levi Strauss & amp; Co. heard the story and were so impressed, they made Crosby a denim tuxedo jacket, which was presented to him at the Silver State Stampede in Elko, Nev., in 1951. Hard to imagine anyone turning away Der Bingle; after all, he was properly middle-aged by then. He wasn't likely to trash his hotel room or any of those other things that people in denim do.





Talk Talk -- Don't miss a chance to hear video art pioneer Gary Hill, whose show opens at the MAC this Friday. The Seattle-based, internationally renowned artist explores the relationship among language, images and experiences through the mediums of video and computer technology. The show is curated by WSU Museum of Art director Chris Bruce. Hill's talk (a dialogue with Bruce) is scheduled for Thursday, March 4, at 6 pm.
