Relief Effort -- While it's been more than three months since a monster tsunami ravaged the Indian Ocean beaches of Sri Lanki, South India, Sumatra, Indonesia and Thailand (among others), the need for international assistance is just as strong now as it was in the days following the initial surge. A consortium of local talent is getting together to address that need, and this Saturday, April 2, you can help. The Celtic Nots kick things off at 1 pm at the Unity Center, 4123 E. Lincoln Rd., followed by Don Kush on guitar. At 2:30, it's a harmonious blending of poetry, yoga and music, courtesy of Tom Davis, Alison Rubin and Jim Templeton. The ethereal, soulful music of Sidhe begins at 3:15, followed by the comedy stylings of the Blue Door Theater at 4. And finally, jazz from the Gary Edighoffer Jazz Combo rounds things up at 4:45. Admission is by donation and all proceeds go to the Red Cross Tsunami Relief and Recovery Effort. Call 489-6964.

Spring Is in the Air -- ... And with it, a reminder to spay or neuter your four-legged friends. The Rathdrum-based group Concerned People for Animals is holding Spay & amp; Neuter Day this Saturday at Hope Haven in St. Maries, with the goal of helping low-income households curb their companion animals' "urge to merge." While the group is already completely booked this weekend (with a scheduled 111 animals and three vets volunteering their services), they are taking donations and encouraging other pet advocacy groups and animal shelters to offer similar events. The King at the Palace -- You're born in Newport, Wash. You star in a couple of shows at Spokane Civic Theatre (Anything Goes, Kismet) and in various Seattle shows (at the Village Theater and Fifth Street Theater). But do you really expect, in just your third Broadway show, to get the lead? Cheyenne Jackson did. He's the King -- Elvis Presley himself -- in All Shook Up, now showing at New York's Palace Theater. It's a story of ascending from rags to riches, from hick to hunk (a-hunka burnin' love).
