Pro-Something, Part II -- Regarding David Bray's comments, (letters, 3/6/03), on "Sally Jackson and her disgruntled band of sore losers." Like Mr. Bray, I live in the City of Spokane. However, I am not sure what was meant by the statement "they use arguments against the voters' choice that have no validity and no basis in fact."


Exit polls and post-election discussion seemed to indicate that one of the most compelling reasons people voted for incorporation was to prevent the Valley from being annexed by the City of Spokane. There are complicated steps in this process and ultimately the people in the area being annexed would have to first request annexation and then vote in favor of it.


However, this fear of being taken over by the City of Spokane took on a life of its own and was played to the hilt by those favoring incorporation. Let's not forget that the PRO-Incorporation people spent over $150,000 on the election (hardly a grassroots movement) as compared to around $2,600 by those anti-people you mention, who, by the way, organized just three weeks before the election. And the election was decided by just around 500 votes. Too often we criticize the people who don't vote or those who choose not to become informed. If people choose to become involved and enough signatures are gathered, then another election will be held. Just think it as "Pro-Unincorporation."
