Speeding toward disaster

The Amtrak train that derailed yesterday south of Seattle, killing several people, was on a new route and was supposed to slow down while bending around the curve where the crash occurred. Instead, it was going 80 mph in a 30 mph zone. (Seattle Times)

Washington State University football coach Mike Leach got a five-year contract extension worth about $4 million per year. Some, however, are criticizing that the contract extension comes amid a budget deficit at WSU that forced the closure of WSU's performing arts program. (Spokesman-Review)
