Re: “League of Justice

Did you hear Mr. Beggs on KXLY this morning say that 80% of jail inmates shouldn't be there? Earlier in the campaign Mr. Beggs said that number was 50%. What happened to increase that number a whopping 30% in just a couple of weeks?

What Mr. Beggs ignores is that those inmates are in jail because 1) there was probable cause to believe the offender committed a crime and 2) an impartial judge ruled they should not be released into the community. Now Mr. Beggs, on his own, wants them out of jail?

"Tough on Crime" is his slogan. "Tough on Crime Victims" is his reality.

Re: “League of Justice

Romeomoon, do you know why Mr. Beggs failed to get the backing of labor in the Spokane area and got kicked out of the labor rally?

Re: “League of Justice

Tom (TS 52) my old friend. You are out of line trying to hang Larry Haskell with the "insider" label as if it is something to be scorned.

I have read many of your posts here and on the Spokesman website. You're posts often mention your many years of experience in the system (and that of your "Big Brother" (BB) when you write about various law enforcement issues. I thank you for those years on the job. We had many cases. But, do those years on the job make you knowledgeable about the issue or an insider? Should you be recognized for those years or should that experience be discounted because you were an "insider"? If respected and knowledgeable, then why should it be any different for Larry Haskell? Shouldn't you be praising that experience as you do your own and that of BB?

Interesting the "insider" label is pretty non-specific. If you have issues with how he he has prosecuted cases, those issues should be specifically mentioned. If not, the "insider" label is just dirty and not the person I know (either you or Larry).

Re: “League of Justice

So Romeomoon can't answer the question either. How about it? How come Beggs fell flat on his face with labor? And go 86'd from the labor rally by labor leaders and Democratic elected officials in attendance.

Re: “League of Justice

I'm still waiting for an explanation by Mr. Beggs as to why Mr. Haskell, a Republican, got the endorsement of the Spokane area labor unions over him. What is it about Mr. Beggs' message that failed to get that support. Knowing Mr. Beggs won't respond, I'll wait for an answer from his surrogate, the Inlander. But I won't hold my breath.

From reading the article is appears that the Inlander's reporter was at the labor rally where Mr. Haskell spoke as an invited candidate. Mr. Beggs showed up and was shown the door by labor leaders. Three time he came in and was told to leave because he wasn't the endorsed candidate and Mr. Haskell was the endorsed candidate.

So, once again, what was it about his message that kept labor from endorsing Mr. Beggs? That would be some real reporting. Don't expect to see it here.

Re: “League of Justice

The article indicates Mr. Beggs has received support from city officials of both parties. But the article doesn't indicate which city he has received that support.

A review of the Public Disclosure Commission website indicates Mr. Beggs has received big money support from Bellingham, Bellevue and Seattle. Could any of those be the "city" referred to in the article? How about Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, or Malibu? How about San Marino, Santa Monica or any of the other cities in California?

One can only wonder about the level of interest those people have in a local prosecutor's office and why they've flooded Mr. Beggs with money..

Re: “Time To Move On

Lila, are you surprised? It's an issue of integrity. Larry Haskell has it. Ted McGregor Jr. doesn't.
