Chobani recalls "fizzy," moldy yogurt

Posted By on Thu, Sep 5, 2013 at 9:51 AM

After customers reported falling ill to "bloating and swelling" yogurt cups, Chobani is voluntarily pulling many of its Greek yogurt products from supermarket shelves.

The putrid dairy was distributed to stores nationwide and into the hands of unwitting consumers from Chobani's plant in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Customers began expressing their terror and dissatisfaction to Chobani on Twitter last week, calling the yogurt "unnervingly fizzy," "puffy" and wine-like:

(#Yogurtwine. Yum.)

According to Chobani CEO Hamid Ulukaya, the root of the rancid whey was a "type of mold that is commonly found in dairy environments." He told the Associated Press that the issue has been "'totally fixed.'"

A full list of the recalled products is available here.
