Ah, Hillyard
Pedaling through Hillyard this morning, on assignment to profile the neighborhood for the upcoming edition of our Annual Manual, I came across this little bad boy:
It appears to be a metal flat file, the "tang" of which pierced my tire, my tube and my metal rim, locking my rear wheel and sending me skidding down North Haven Street. An attendant at the YMCA (where I went afterward to un-freak myself out) commented, "It's such a skinny tire, and such a huuuge world. What are the chances?" The bike tech at REI dropped his jaw and said I should submit the photo to a bike magazine, just to share the freak show.
Needless to say, the Hillyard neighborhood may not get the glowing review I gave to the neighborhoods that weren't littered with industrial shrapnel.
