MORNING HEADLINES: More debt! More money to demolish! More crime! No more babies!

Posted on Tue, Aug 2, 2011 at 8:52 AM

Drumroll, please — The debt deal passes! First the House gave its approval, and now the Senate! Financial markets around the world shrug, say, "Meh." Government workers curse to the themselves. And House Democrats are like, "Wait. What just happened?" Meanwhile, Obama high-fives Tea Partiers and everyone's happy! (NYT)

But all's not well in Spokashington, D.C. — The massively expensive YMCA building in Riverfront Park is costing more to demolish than the city thought. By $250,000. Gadzooks. (SR)

But at least we weren't starved and robbed — The 106-year-old woman recently found in her trailer near Kettle Falls begging for food has reportedly been filched of $1 million! Understatement of the day: The old man who allegedly robbed her is a jerk. (SR)

Meanwhile, in baby land — It turns out that birth control will soon be free. Thanks Obama's health care reform! But can we send it to China? (The Daily Beast)
