Indifference

Posted on Sat, Sep 4, 2010 at 10:47 AM

I want to share a story of indifference with you. My oldest son is Autistic & super smart. Autistic children tend to try to run away & wander. Yesterday while I was in the bathroom my worst fear came to light & he climbed through the window in the living room & ran away, in nothing but a diaper because it was almost bed time. I came out of the bathroom & immediately saw that he was not there ran outside & finally spotted him down a block about to turn the corner. I ran after him & when I reached him I realized there was a woman sitting on her front porch talking on her cellphone not 15 feet from him. She did not even attempt to call to him or get up to get him off the street. I realize this is not her child, but really if you saw a child in the middle of the street in nothing but a diaper what would you do? I don't care if she would have called the cops or thought that I was a bad mom at least he would have been off the street. My son is safe thank god, & now our house is a super fortress with locks on all windows & bells on the doors. Am I being too hard on this lady for her indifference?
