Courteous Cashiers

Posted on Sat, Jun 16, 2012 at 8:23 AM

A huge thank you to all of the cashiers who ring up my food stamp purchases
without judging me or the selections I have made. It may appear that I
sometimes buy 'expensive' things, but as a mother of five whose ex has not
paid child support in a year and a half, what I can get with my EBT card is
usually all I can afford to 'give' my kids at birthdays and special times.
I hardly ever buy root beer floats and chips, but for a birthday I will
splurge to try and make it special for my children because I can't afford
to buy gifts. Believe me, if I choose to spend my food stamps on a
certain 'expensive' item, I have to adjust for it somewhere else in the
menu (usually by eating a lot of beans and rice we so gratefully receive
from the food bank.) So, thank you to all the cashiers who treat me as a
valued customer even though I have to pay with food stamps (and yes, it is
embarrassing to me to do so)
