There's this thing about bars that makes us tell stories to strangers, which is something people don't do too often anymore. Maybe it's the comfort of a barstool beneath you and a cold one in your hand that lets you open up. But bars are also places where stories are made.
And that's what we were thinking about when we ventured out for our second edition of our Happy Hour Guide. While we scoured the region for a fair sampling of 200-plus food and drink specials, we also visited some of the Inland Northwest's oldest drinking establishments, looking for a good story.
Along the way, we found a place in Moscow that was once a fabled destination for men who could jump very, very high. We also came across an east Spokane bar that came about right after Prohibition. Then there's a place with a name that was never meant to be offensive, but accidentally is. And we also learned how a historic neighborhood bar operates from day to day.
Take a look at all the specials we tracked down and know that you can get your next round of drinks for cheap... or at least cheaper. Get out there. Who knows? You might make a story of your own.
