First of all, I would like to say what a refreshing sight it was finally to see the title Hedwig and the Angry Inch on a Spokane theater marquee. Seeing Hedwig for the first time at Seattle's Landmark Egyptian Theater in August, I left the theater speechless. Who knew the story of a boy from East Berlin who suffers a botched sex change in the name of love and freedom could have such a profound effect on a 17-year-old girl from Spokane, Washington?

Though the plot may seem outlandish and superficial, at its core the film is everything but that. The emotions conveyed through John Cameron Mitchell's portrayal of the repressed, somewhat crude, but always somehow lovable, lounge singer is nothing short of miraculous. You may walk into the theater a bit surprised by your own bravery, but I promise you that you will walk out wanting to share your experience, and this film, with anyone and everyone you know.
