Moulin Rouge, reviewed by Pam Meyer

I have not paid much attention to the name Baz Luhrmann in the past, but I will now. Moulin Rouge, in my opinion, is one of the best movies ever made. It has singing and dancing -- a great chorus line and costumes, a love story between Satine & amp; Christian, a villian, The Duke, and many interesting characters. It is both a comedy and a tragedy set in 1899, and incorporates great sets. The best part of the movie is the Oscar-worthy cinematography -- the use of several techniques is worth the price of admission by themselves.

Then there's the ingenious use of modern day lyrics -- that go from dialogue in the movie to song. The music ranges from the Beatles, Elton John, Madonna and others, plus the cancan. You have never seen "Like A Virgin" done in this manner. Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor are a believable screen couple, and both have good voices, and the supporting cast is topnotch -- especially Jim Broadbent as the showman, Zidler. I will be watching for more Baz Luhrmann films -- he definitely knows how to put together a great film.
