by Inlander Staff & r & Aeon Flux -- Aeon Flux, the cartoon, went a long way toward making cartoons acceptable to the twentysomethings of mainstream America when it debuted on MTV -- of all places -- in 1991. One good turn deserves another, and Aeon Flux is getting a live-action adaptation that looks, if I may be so bold, pretty damn good. The absurdist dystopian futurist feel seems intact, and, to play the lead, the producers got the sexy and brilliant Charlize Theron. But then, the studio didn't give advance screenings, which is usually a really bad sign. Rated PG-13. (LB)

First Descent -- A snowboarding movie! This one takes place in Alaska, where there are lots of mountains to snowboard down. The people who do so include Shawn Farmer, Terje Haakonsen, Nick Peralta, Hannah Teter and wunderkind Shaun White. Rated PG-13

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang -- This might be the best noir film ever made because it never even begins to take itself seriously. A petty thief (Robert Downey Jr.) accidentally becomes an actor, but must first take detective lessons from a private eye named Gay Perry (Val Kilmer). In the middle of it all, the actor gets involved in romance and murder. Very funny, and a bit nasty. (ES) Rated R
