Our favorite image from Saturday's St. Paddy's Day Parade

We saw plenty of dignitaries in convertibles and atop flat-bed trucks during Saturday's St. Patrick's Day parade in downtown Spokane, but the best had to have been County Commissioner Bonnie Mager (D) cruising down Main Avenue in a tiny orange Tango, the Spokane-bred electric sports car.

Strangely unassuming yet freighted with meaning for a politician who has focused for years on land use and the environment. At any rate, Mager's appearance certainly sent a more effective message than Bob Apple's did. The Spokane city councilman, who has announced he's running for Alex Wood's old seat on the state Legislature, shambled down Main on foot, another guy trailing behind with a hand-written cardboard sign that explained, simply, "Bob Apple." Nice.
