Four signs the apocalypse is upon us

Posted on Fri, Jan 14, 2011 at 10:27 AM

First, the Seattle Seahawks made unfortunate history as the first losing team (7-9) to make the NFL playoffs. And not only did they get in, but they had home-field advantage as Western Division champs.

Second, despite much of the nation casting the Seahawks as an abomination soon to be cleansed from the playoffs by the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints — SAINTS! — the demon birds stuck a flaming pitchfork into the Saints, winning 41-36.

Third, the touchdown that secured the win came when Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch went into what he calls Beast Mode and trampled half the New Orleans defenders for a 67-yard scoring run. And not only was the name of the Beast invoked, but the run created a seismic event, registering up to a magnitude 2.0 on an earthquake scale. (Hey, it's science. Check it out.)

And finally, there is this. It's like a plague of locusts. It's going way beyond mere football.

If the Seahawks keep winning ... pray.
