HUMOR US: This weekend in comedy

Posted By on Fri, Dec 2, 2011 at 3:04 PM

We are quite pleased to announce that comedian Harry J. Riley will be performing at Spokane's most-new comedy venue, The Spokane Comedy Club (formerly home to Chuckles comedy club). Riley is definitely one of the area's strongest comics — do some in-depth reading about how awesome he is here.

Opening up the night will be local comic Ken Habib, who also shares the stage with Riley in their sketch group, the Rube Goldberg Device. Also, according to staff, the club sold out every weekend last month, so make some reservations. This place is pretty rad — they've got the brick wall and everything.

Show is $10, doors at 8 pm, the action begins at 8:30 pm. Call 328-9000 for reservations. Oh, and the club is located in the back room of the Tailgater sports bar, which you can find at 1221 N. Howard St. by the Value Village.

If you're in the mood for something slightly quirkier than stand-up, check out Don Parkins at Uncle D's Comedy Underground. The performer, who is also the club's owner and manager (Don = Uncle D, get it?) does a special hypnosis act. Like all of Uncle D's shows, it starts at 8 pm and will set ya back $12.

Today is your catch-up day. Looks like we got round two for comedy at the Spokane Comedy Club and Uncle D's. Refer to the above.

Also, the Blue Door Theater will have their usual Saturday night Safari improv show. But they mix it up every week, so you shan't be attending a repeat. Show starts at 9 and will cost you $7-$9, depending on how old you are.

If you're really looking to expand your comedic horizons, check out the workshop being held at the Blue Door. Put on by musical comedy group the Locust Street Taxi, it's a presentation on the art of writing good funny songs. If this confuses you, visit their website here to get a better idea. It's a lot to get into for a Friday afternoon. The workshop is at noon and will cost you $35.

Know where laughs are being made? Do tell. Email [email protected] with the  details.
