CITY HALL EYEBALL: Is Treppiedi still representing the police?

A blog today from the Center of Justice suggests that Mayor David Condon is backing away from his claim that Assistant City Attorney Rocky Treppiedi is no longer representing members of the Spokane Police Department.

Inlander news editor Nicholas Deshais wrote in October about Treppiedi and his notorious reputation as a bulldog protector of the police — lying about the events that led to an innocent man's death at the hands of police, countersuing people who sue the city being two examples.

I was at the news conference the Center for Justice mentioned, and Condon certainly seemed to say — as you'll see in the footage — that Treppiedi has been taken off cases involving the police.

If Treppiedi is still working with the police, why would Condon have to back away from the former's reassignment to non-police duties?

And has the employment review of Treppiedi that Condon promised been completed?

City Spokesperson Marlene Feist told me this afternoon that, to her knowledge, it hasn't been conducted, and she doesn't know when it will be.

Intrigue, indeed.
