Spokane Philanthropy Award nominations due Thursday

Posted By on Wed, Sep 17, 2014 at 2:30 PM

To encourage the spirit of giving in our community, local governments, including the City of Spokane, are teaming up with Spokane County United Way and the Empire Health Foundation to encourage citizens to get involved with local nonprofits. Part of that endeavor is the annual Spokane Philanthropy Awards, recognizing organizations and individuals who embody selflessness in their philanthropic work.

This awards include five categories, which Mayor Condon explains in the above video (skip to the 2:30 mark). Individuals or couples can be nominated for the Outstanding Philanthropist Award. For local business organizations, the Philanthropic Small Business of the Year recognizes businesses with 50 employees or less, while the Philanthropic Corporation of the Year commends those with at least 51 employees. Nonprofits can be nominated for the Philanthropic Organization of the Year, and finally the Young Philanthropist Award recognizes an individual under age 21.

Winners are to be announced at an event on Oct. 21, hosted by Lisa Brown, the chancellor of Washington State University Spokane. Submit your nominations through an application here. The deadline is tomorrow, Thur, Sept. 18.
