Friendly Advice -- This is a note to anyone who -- like the guy at the KYRS benefit show at the B-Side last Saturday night -- is kindly given the opportunity to perform "one song" at a show where he or she is not otherwise billed: Keep it short. It's just good etiquette. Plus, if you're performing and you see people hastily moving away from the stage, it could be a sign that you should probably forget about that final chorus or guitar solo -- and wrap it up. Stat.





Come Play for Us -- Uh oh. If you haven't heard, this Friday's much anticipated Pretty Girls Make Graves show at Fat Tuesday's has been nixed from the schedule. But the show must go on, and the bookers over at Fat Tuesday's have already snatched up a few local yokels to fill the Pretty Girls' shoes. The Mediocre, Zero Effect and those cute little Dancing Cadavers are set to play instead.





Fresh Air Punk -- We're fully aware that you all-agers and youngsters out there are mourning the temporary loss of the Spike Coffeehouse. We miss the nights of watching all of you young'uns spilling out onto North Monroe, lattes in hand and punk in your hearts. According to the Spike's owner, Patrick Walsh, the Spike, version 2.0, is still set to open later this year in the Havermale Building on the opposite side of town. But just because the Spike doesn't have a body, doesn't mean it doesn't have a soul. If you've passed by Coeur d'Alene Park in Browne's Addition in the last few weeks, you may have noticed a lot more punksters than usual. That's the Spike. Walsh and his cronies have been throwing together impromptu shows and jam sessions on random nights over the past few weeks. There's no schedule; if you're looking to see the Spike's brand of adolescent punk, best bet is to drop by CdA Park and get your face rocked off.
