Lights, Camera, Action! -- The offices of The Inlander were transformed last Sunday evening into a movie set by local film company North by Northwest for their latest project, End Game, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Angie Harmon. The production company needed a location for the film's "Washington, D.C., newspaper office" and figured our own fairly realistic workspace would do the trick. Thus Inlander editor Ted McGregor's office became reporter "Kate (Angie Harmon) Crawford's" office. Meanwhile about a half a dozen of us saw a little screen action as extras playing (appropriately enough) high-power DC newspaper types. Yep, except for our "business casual attire" -- oh, and the "high-power" bit -- it all seemed like business as usual around here. Only more fun.





Jesus Rocks! -- People have seen the image of the Virgin Mary in everything from windows of skyscrapers to grilled cheese sandwiches. But Spokane resident Ron McNett says he's got the real thing -- in a rock. He claims a rock from his mother's garden bears the image of Jesus, "as clear as day" -- and the image of the Virgin Mary when it's turned upside down.


"It's mind-boggling," he says. McNett now takes the rock with him everywhere, saying people have formed lines to look at it. "It's not for sale," McNett says, referring to the grilled cheese sandwich with a bite out of it that sold on eBay. "I want people to see it and think about it. I believe in the Lord real heavy and have been trying to get the word out there." He's working hard, too. McNett is in contact with the Oprah Winfrey and C.J. Malone shows.





The Graduates -- Springtime is traditionally reserved for all things pomp, circumstance and commencement. From little kids graduating from kindergarten to the full-on regalia of masters and doctoral candidates working their sashes and what-have-you, it's the season for movin' on up. Theatre Ballet of Spokane is no different, and this Saturday at the Met, they offer a dance performance mimicking the behind-the-scenes high jinks that might go on at any number of local high school graduations. Fresh from their recent trip to New York City, the dancers of Theatre Ballet will present "Graduation Ball" by Johann Strauss Jr. - a tale of "a group of young ladies who have invited several young men from a boy's school across town to their school graduation party." Wooo mama! But don't worry about bringing your grade-schoolers - it's all just a backdrop for the timeless athleticism and grace of classical ballet. For tickets, call 838-5705.
