SO much is going on in the area to kick off the new year, and our event listings are a great way to keep up with it all. Or you can rely on our Staff Picks to steer you toward some of the best things going down around town. 

No time? No prob — here are a few highlights for Tuesday, Jan. 6: 

VISUAL ARTS | Spokane Falls Community College today opens an art installation packed with video, film and audience participation. Couch Potato runs for a month, and not all the films are, ahem, "family-friendly." 

SPORTS & OUTDOORS | REI is hosting one of its regular workshops to help people enjoy the outdoors. Tonight, it's Snowshoeing Basics

FILM | Demented and sad, but social. That's a pretty good description of The Breakfast Club, the movie on tap for tonight's edition of Tubular Tuesdays at the Garland Theater. Here's a trailer:
