Bike to Work sign-up begins

Posted By on Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 10:02 AM

Bike to Work Week isn't until May 16, but sign-up began at about 8 pm last night.

Why sign up, rather than just, you know, bike to work on your own? Two reasons: One, to give organizers as big a number as possible when lobbying for bike/ped interests in Spokane. "We want to have good data showing the importance of biking as part of our transportation system and we need [riders] to stand up and be counted," Bike to Work Co-Chair Barb Chamberlain said in a statement.

The other reason is that registrants get a rad "Bicycle Benefits" sticker that will confer upon the owner discounts at participating businesses year-round.

There's a pancake feed at Riverfront Park on May 17 open to registrants and a closing party at Steam Plant on May 21 (though that requires an RSVP).

Pretty sweet deal for a free event.
