THIS WEEKEND IN MUSIC: Ritter! Reader! Rave!

Posted By on Fri, Nov 5, 2010 at 3:37 PM

TONIGHT!

The grand re-opening was last night, but Aclub throws opens its doors again tonight for a show that will, without a doubt, be packed. A clan of swing dancers tends to follow 6 Foot Swing from gig to gig, and Aclub has a massive dance floor. Wear dancing shoes. Prepare to be sweaty. The band takes the stage tonight at 9 pm. $5. Gotta be 21.

I think we've officially made Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside feel loved. The brassy-voiced, horn-rimmed-glasses-wearing singer and her band return to Spokane tonight after a show last night in Pullman. They'll play the Blue Spark tonight at 9 pm with Mick Croon. Again, this one will probably be swamped — so you might want to get there a few drinks before the band starts. $4. Gotta be 21.

So apparently Hannah Reader is local again? Awesome! The piano gal's epic songs made waves around these parts before she took off for Los Angeles (we wrote about her forever ago). She's back now and plays Mootsy's tonight with the Soul and the Machine and Reverb. A solid local line-up. 10 pm. $5. Gotta be 21.

Empyrean's got a whole lot going on, despite a couple of snags. The early show — at 8 pm — features Camille Bloom, an ex-Spokane girl who moved away to Seattle, wrote a whole bunch of songs and converted a huge fanbase. She'll play for a solid two hours tonight. That show is $10. The late show was supposed to feature Mimicking Birds. Sadly, that one had a wrench thrown in it when the band's van broke down. Dammit! Belt of Vapor plays a free show instead at 10 pm. All ages.

Last, but totally not least: Moscow's own Josh Ritter plays the Knitting Factory tonight! If you have not seen this video for his song "The Curse" (off his latest record, So Runs the World Away), you need to take a couple minutes to watch it, below. It's amazing and will probably make you cry. Read our latest story on Ritter here. The show kicks off tonight at 8:30 pm. $20. All-ages.

TOMORROW!

Hometown boy Tyrone Wells has made one hell of a name for himself since he left Spokane. You've heard his songs on local radio, but also on Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill, Cold Case, Intervention… more shows than we can possibly name in this space. Check out our story on him here, and hit up his show (with Andrew Belle and Crown Point) tomorrow at the Knitting Factory. 8 pm. $16. All-ages.

Nothing cool happens in Spokane? Head to Stage54 tomorrow night. The Kan-U-Step/Womp Session #1 is a dub-step rave. And if you have no idea what any of that means, read our story on dub-step here and check out this awesome video below. A whole bunch of DJs — local and regional — will play: Eprom, Nasty Nasty, Valis, Crave, Beauflexx and Epidemic. The madness kicks off tomorrow night at 7 pm. $10 - $18. All-ages.
