TONIGHT!
Seattle's Blue Scholars approach hip-hop in a brainy, bookish kind of way. Read our interview with them here and check them out tonight at A Club. It's $15, and all-ages. Starts at 7 pm
Downstairs at Mootsy's, a few locals congregate: Diamond Speedboat, Team Growl, BBBBandits and Casey Rogers. 10 pm. $5. Gotta be 21.
And if you're in the Moscow area, head on over to the Kenworthy Theater where the Horse Thieves (who we wrote about in last week's paper) will host their second CD Release show at 7:30 pm. Bart Budwig opens. $10-$12. All-ages.
SATURDAY!
If you missed the Blue Scholars in Spokane, head southward to check them out at the Belltower in Pullman on Saturday night.
At the Baby Bar/Neato Burrito, honky-tonkers Silver Treason, one of our 2011 Bands to Watch, play alongside the Perennials. Shows there start around 10 pm, and are usually free. All-ages.
Just over the Monroe Street Bridge, at the Hop!, Detroit punks the Koffin Kats will be back to rock the house. They play with locals Reason for Existence, Losing Skin, Mercy Brown, the 45s and Rockin Yotes. 6:30 pm. $13. All-ages.
Downtown at Mootsy's, local purveyor of the very darkest of music, Dan Ocean (another one of our 2011 Bands to Watch), hooks up with Justin East to produce Brothers of Midnite — a creepy DJ project spinning darkwave, drag and witchhouse. $3. 9 pm.
Welcome to the second-ever edition of BACON ALERT — your only local news service passionately devoted to round-the-clock coverage of any and all things bacon in the Inland NW.
Let's get crackling.
Our dear Lady Bacon can be a fickle mistress indeed. She often appears in delicacies only to vanish off the menu after a short, passionate rendezvous with our taste buds ... and our hearts.
Our previous Bacon Alert cataloged her appearance at Sante, where she took the form of bacon ice cream. Today, she has moved on to something much more solid.
Amy Edwards of Amy E's Bakery in Moscow, Id., has made a special order of bacon chocolate bars for the Moscow Food Co-Op after their previous bacon bar was discontinued. Think the sexy saltiness of bacon combined with the rich essence of chocolate. It's arousing, to say the least.
But alas, it seems that like its predecessor, our time with this new bacon love is short.
"I don't know when I'll be making it again, or if I will be [at all]" says Edwards. "I'm too busy with my other candy."
Well. If that's how it's gonna be ...
Stock up now, for the end is nigh. I mean, they're bound to run out at some point. Sigh. Bacon, why must we forever chase after you?
Moscow Food Co-Op • 121 E. 5th St., Moscow, ID • Open daily from 7:30 am-9 pm • moscowfood.coop • 208-882-8537

Free food is ideal. But half-off is still an awesome deal.
To celebrate the reopening of its newly renovated Palm Court Grill, the Davenport Hotel is offering half off lunch, dinner and late-night menus. The deal is being offered at the Peacock Room Lounge and Davenport Lobby, in addition to the Palm Court Grill, through Nov. 23. Happy-hour drinks are also half-price in the bar 4-6 pm daily.
In a press release about the event, Davenport owner Walt Worthy said, “It was important that we lower our menu prices and make it less of a destination for only special occasions, and turn it into a destination for everyday occasions.”
Renovations to the Palm Court Grill include additional seating, a bar in the restaurant, and historic pictures of the Davenport’s rich history.
This deal just began this week and you still have about a month to enjoy it, but it’s sure to draw some crowds, so reservations are probably a good idea. Make them online at palmcourtgrill.com or call 509-789-6848.
This video, which uses adorable cartoon blue whales to depict the floods ravaging Thailand, is meant to explain to the Thai people why the floods are happening and what they can do to — calmly — prepare themselves. Good message, better animation.
