Whitworth University is sponsoring its sixth annual Cultural Awareness Week, beginning today. The series of events is meant to promote an understanding of various cultures at Whitworth, in the wider community and throughout the world.

Here are a few events on the schedule this week. For the full schedule, visit Whitworth University News. 

Monday, Nov. 14: A speaker from the nonprofit organization Invisible Children will talk about human trafficking at 7 pm in the Hixson Union Building's Multipurpose Room.

Tuesday, Nov. 15: A screening of the documentary Warton, about the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder on people who have served in the military, followed by a panel discussion, will take place at 7 pm in the HUB's Multipurpose Room.

Wednesday, Nov. 16: Whitworth's cultural diversity advocates are sponsoring "One Continent... Many Voices," featuring speakers from Taiwan, Vietnam, South Korea, China and the Phillippines, who will discuss cultural events, values and how it feels to live in America, at 8 pm in the HUB's Multipurpose Room.

Thursday, Nov. 17: In honor of International Education Week, the Whitworth Education Department is sponsoring a symposium beginning at 6 pm in Weyerhaeuser Hall's main lobby that will feature student poster presentations, discussion groups, speakers and refreshments.

Friday, Nov. 18: An international fashion show and entertainment program — including a performance by the Whitworth Gospel Choir, ethnic dance performances and Whitworth President Beck Taylor as guest speaker. Dinner opens to the public at 5:15 pm in the dining hall, and entertainment begins at 6:30 pm. Tickets cost $10 for the public, and students with a meal plan get in free with their ID.
