The Spokane City Council will tonight determine whether to impose an alcohol impact area in the city's West Central neighborhood.
An ordinance by councilman Steve Corker would curb the sales of alcoholic beverages — mostly cheap or fortified beers and malt liquors — in the neighborhood. Such an area already exists in downtown Spokane.
An ordinance that raises the fine for parking at an expired meter from $15 to $25 will also have its final reading. The ordinance includes a clause allowing for the reduction of the penalty to $5 if the fine is paid within six days.
Finally, the council will hold a special hearing on a proposed agreement with Benton County to house inmates imprisoned for city misdemeanors. City spokeswoman Marlene Feist says the council is expected to discuss, but not vote on, the ordinance.
