Olympic boxing: the Queen Underwood saga

Posted By on Tue, Feb 14, 2012 at 9:27 AM

Seattle native and five-time national boxing champion Quanitta "Queen" Underwood has had a lot of stories. Underwood, who won her first bout yesterday in the Olympic qualifying event at Northern Quest Casino, will fight again today.

So here's your chance to learn about Underwood, and women's boxing, before both become household names when the Olympics begin.

The Spokesman Review wrote of Underwood's path from teenager to boxer to Olympic hopeful. We wrote about her being the second of two Washington natives to try smashing the glass ceiling in women's boxing. And the New York Times this weekend profiled Underwood's darker family life, including her molestation as a child at the hands of her father.

Get reading. This won't be the last time you hear Underwood's name.
